A map of how man's relationship to whales has changed over
time through the way he says the word "whale." The inflections in his voice
evolve from a tone of bravado and fear of a monstrous leviathan to that of
adoration for an almost celestial creature. Man's attitude towards whales
began to change around the mid-1960's upon the discovery that whales sing
making them seem more human and relatable (thus worthy of being "saved") and
so the choice of sound as the medium for this map seemed eloquently
appropriate. The words were sampled from a variety of sources including:
documentaries, films, audio recordings, music, taped readings in all forms
from vhs, dvd, cassettes, cd's and even vinyl records.
